Angler's Fly Fishing 2003 Calendar: Includes Fishing Tips, Hatch Dates, and Destinations
Another Lousy Day in Paradise Once again, Gierach shows that he may be the best fishing writer around. The school of fishing scribes is bloated with guys who love to tell you why you should use a #20 Blue Dun nymph rather than a #18 Blue-Winged Olive in a particular situation, but Gierach is not interested in any such nonsense.

Author Chris Francis presents his own obsession as a primer for others who would like to learn more about these magnificent predators--and, of course, those who would like to catch larger ones in greater quantity.
Art of Tying the Dry Fly Pictures are great, in color, and almost a blind man(or woman) can see them, read the instructions and understand. Instructions are fairly straight forward, and progression of flies tied or techniques is logical. Is a great instruction manual for those starting out. Companion text on tying nymphs also a worthwhile read. Other books that are very similar are the Kaufmann books

Basic Fly Tying: All the Skills Basic Fly Tying: All the Skills and Tools You Need to Get Started (Basic Books Series)
Basic Manual of Fly-Tying ... Think like a fish, and you'll tie the right flies that trout can't resist. This revolutionary understanding of fly-tying is based on the seasonal changes that live insects undergo, from the trout's eye view. In addition to learning every step of making perfect trout flies every time, you'll develop a sense of what matters to the fish--which is what makes the flies work.
Bass on the Fly The majority of America's freshwater anglers fish for bass with spinning or casting rods and some kind of hardware: plugs, spinnerbaits, plastic worms. But A. D. Livingston says that, in many situations, the best way to take bass is with the fly rod. And despite fly fishing's reputation as an expensive, elitist sport, taking bass on the fly can be by far the least expensive way to go
Becoming a Fly Fisher : From Brookie Days to the Tenth Level The remarkable story of the evolution of fly fishers, by the longtime publisher of Fly Fisherman Magazine.
Best Flies for Idaho (Greycliff Best Flies Series, Vol. 1) Idaho fly-tyers are innovators by necessity. This mostly rural state, with large areas of designated wilderness, is not the sort of place where anglers can always run around the corner to pick up a few hot flies at the local shop. It makes sense, then, that there's a guidebook devoted solely to a state with a wide variety of fly-fishing opportunities and a renowned history of fly-tying.
Billfish on a Fly
Black's 2000 Fly Fishing... The Complete Angler's Guide to Equipment, Instruction, and Destinations.
Bluewater Fly Fishing I checked this book out of our local library and am now buying a copy for my cousin and for me. To my knowledge, no other book of this kind exists. Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit : Fly Fishing Guide
Breakfast at Trout's Place The worked-over fly-fishing memoir gets a fresh sheen with Ken Marsh's tales from the Alaskan outback. A lifelong resident and editor of Alaska Magazine, Marsh has no need for wide-eyed descriptions of hairy bush plane flights or last-frontier soliloquies. Moreover, he gracefully sidesteps previous touchstones of the genre such as midlife crisis, midlife travel, and midlife discovery that equate fish as savior.
Caddis Super Hatches ... Knowledge of caddis flies and how to present them in all stages of life can be key to a fly-fisher's success in many situations.
Caddisflies Hailed as a classic almost as soon as it came out in the early 1980s, this combination of entomology and fly-fishing instruction puts a small insect--the caddis fly--under the microscope to help anglers get big results on the water. Misunderstood for years, LaFontaine explains why caddis should be an important part of any fly-fisher's arsenal of flies, and his arguments are very persuasive
Carp on the Fly : A Flyfishing Guide I was a little confused by what Berryman was trying to do in this book. Like "Love and Fame," "Carp on the Fly" shows a different Berryman from the one we meet in "The Dream Songs." Here the emphasis seems to be on man's relationship with nature, both outer and inner, and the predatory nature of our connections with that larger world.
Carrie Stevens Maker of ... This long-awaited book is both a history of the woman and the region, as well as a guide to the Stevens method
Cast from the Edge ... "Nothing prepares us for the next moment. Or it all does, if we are able to see. We have reasons for everything, and then those reasons shatter. We are utterly wrong and we start all over again. We return to fly fishing because we are certain that here, at least, the good guys always win"

Complete Book of Western Hatches I just bought this book, and read it straight through. I have also taken it with me--to the river--to use as it was written. The book is well written, and contains most of the general information that flyfishermen need to really enhance their experience. The only thing I would recommend in any subsequent revisions, is the use of color photographs of the insects. Tight Lines!

You've seen the hit movie A River Runs Through It and you know that fly fishing is one of the most popular leisure activities in the country today. Dry Fly : New Angles The angler can learn more about trout, more about flies, and more about everyday fishing situations in The Dry Fly than in any other fly fishing book. The angler will also have more fun reading this book than they have previously had with a fly fishing book.
Dry Fly and Fast Water ... The Dry Fly and Fast Water was written to fill a need created by the coming of the brown trout to America. The British flies and methods that followed it over here proved inapplicable. Therefore, it remained for fishing expert George La Branche to promulgate a new, distinctly American school of dry-fly angling
Earth Is Enough ... A very powerfull book, best read by light of a roaring fire in the woods somewhere. Harry Middleton, wherever you are, tight lines, and beautiful sunsets.

Essential Fly Fishing Another excellent book on the basics of fly-fishing. Although the illustrations were not seen at the time of review, Meade's well-written text alone will make a considerable addition to any collection of fly-fishing tomes. Meade's getting-started chapters are well thought out in realizing his intent--namely, to have the budding angler not go out first thing and purchase tons of new gadgets and toys

Fish Bum's Guide to Catching Larger Trout Having taught fly fishing for several years, I discovered that beginning fly fishermen were intimidated by lakes, and much prefer to fish the more solitary streams and creeks, where water seems easier to read and less people are around to watch their climb up the learning curve. However, after the first year most anglers are ready to move on to catching larger fish, most of which are found in lakes.

Fishing Nymphs, Wet Flies & Streamers ... This book teaches fishing enthusiasts the time-tested, effective techniques for catching trout below the surface.
Fishing Small Streams With a Fly Rod It was a perfect day for reading. I had the den to myself, and the table lamp was just bright enough to illuminate the pages of _Fishing Small Streams With A Fly Rod_. I opened the book to any old chapter, and like clockwork, there it was: a first person, past tense anecdote, of no informational value but so predictable it was comforting. It was a reading experience I'll look back to fondly.

Excellent images abound throughout Flashes in the River.
