I agree with Cody. I lived on the lake for 20 years. If you want to catch bass the best was always minnows, sometimes crickets. Brim and believe it or not, small catfish could be caught on certain parts with bread. Crappie if you can find them but nothing big. The fish are small though and not many bass. The biggest I ever caught was maybe 2 pounds. The beaver dam is your best option for bass usually. I caught maybe a hundred catfish, nothing bigger than 2 pounds. But I moved out of that neighborhood in 2001

Matt Sampley, Fishing in the pond is supposed to be for people in the neighborhood only. Although I never once saw anyone there to enforce it. I don't know how that would be possible. Just in case, I would have a fishing license, then all they could do would be to ask you to leave. At the park in front of the swing sets was the best place to fish for brim. With a hook and bread I would catch 20 to 30 in a matter of hours. I think that would be ideal for you and your son. For bass I would enter the park and walk to the left past the dock (which is another good spot for brim - just toss in bread to locate)until you get to the more swampy area and around the beaver dam. Fishing with minnows is a great idea there or maybe a frog lure. Hope this helps. Again, nobody's gonna be an ass and tell you you can't fish there unless you're not releasing after you catch.

Does anyone who lives in Salem Woods know for sure if the lake is open to public fishing. I live just out side the neighborhood (Shamrock Dr.) and would love to walk down there with my 6 year old son.
