This is one of the best nestled secrets left in Alabama. The waters are clean , no litter found on the ground or in the lake, best of all no drunks on the water. Great fishing . I caught a few 5 -6 lb bass and brim . Folks complain about the fees for public usage. Owners of the property pay associate fees. They keep the police officer paid, community center up to date park clean and docking areas available for people living off the water for a fee.So yes, fees can seem high but ya know Logan Martin charges a few bucks a pop everytime you eneter your boat to the water. You have drunks on the water. High record of fatalities and also a litter problem in and around the lake. You get what you pay for and Highland Lake is a steal of a deal for a fun and a safe day . It's not over crowed, not over fished, and always someone there to make sure the wrong folks don't end up in the water. The folks have to be licensed to fish, properly insured and licensed to run watercraft in the water. If you have kids its priceless compared to other local lakes. Highland Lake also limits public passes so it's not about greed its about maintaining whats there. The ranking is 5 all the way around . Check it out yourself. It beats all lakes hands down.

Lake has no fishing pressure at all. Caught (3) Bass over 5lbs, (3) bass over 6lbs, (2) over 7lbs, (1) 9lbs 2ozs and countless smaller bass. NOW requires non-residents to purchase one year boat sticker for $400.00 (NOT a misprint) FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS. Fishermen without stickers are JAILED & charged with CRIMINAL trespassing!Highland Lake township is not well thought of by any neighbors. Out of 24 people spoken with, NONE had positive comments
