It was around 1965 and we caught golden trout seemed to take the whole day to hike in fish for a while and get out. There were parts that were very steep and we had to be careful. We actually slid down the snow in our descent into the bowl of the lake. The view from the top showed all of the trout swimming. I was 15 years old and will always remember that day!

I make this hike several times a year mainly for the exercise. It's a pretty difficult hike and inaccessible due to terrain and snow till late June or July. Fished there a couple of times and wasn't successful. I threw about everything I had in that water and the only thing that got a hit was a Repala. Only about two acres of water and the hiker crowd is surprisingly large at the lake due to the proximity to the PCT.

I have been to raymond lake about 7 times and have caught multiple goldens on each trip. There is a trick to catching them, but I will have to keep that to myself. This lake is a gem and is very special to me because I have many memories of going there since I was young with my Dad. The hike is long and difficult at times, but all worth it once you get a glimpse of the emerald green waters. I hope to go back again someday.

I have been to the lake quite a few times in the mid 1990's. The lake is small, but if you know how to, you can be succesfull at catching quite large golden trout. The hike into the lake is some what difficult, but is very much worth it. The views from the lake are great and you can see highway 88 in the distance.
