If you bring your bicycle, ONLY use it on the near side perimeter, as it is not allowed on the far side - walking only. Kayaks or any other manner of boat, tube or floating device are strictly off limits as well. You can stay as long as you like, it is 24-7-365 and a few have been known to catch some decent cats after dark. I have only fished for largemouths, and I usually catch 1 or 2 keepers per outing. I really like the place since it does not see a lot of pressure.

Just because you didn't catch anything doesn't mean there are no fish. For catfish, try cutbaits, chicken livers or any meaty bait. soak your bait in any bloody garlic marinade for best results. For bass try cranks, spinners, spoons or Repalas. Our group of 3 people have visited this lake at least 12 times in 2009 and we have always caught at least 3 keepers each (9 total with at least 3 bass over 2 lbs). We spend 3 to 5 hours each time. Best results to start within an hour of sunrise or 3 hours before sunset until it's dark. On the rare occasion when the winds are calm, you can use top baits, floating bait or have your bait about 8" to 10" below a large bobber. Please be sure to bring a few bags to put your trash in. There have been times where a trash can was on-site and missing on others. The majority of the trash and mess is from people "passing through" and are one's that will vandalize and trash any nice place they go to. We always fill 3 large 30 gallon lawn and leaf bags of other peoples trash to do our part and I live in Bakersfield, so I'm not exactly a local. If you are looking for an easily accessible lake where you can take young children, THIS IS NOT IT ! There are plenty of parks with lakes more suited to young children. There are rattlesnakes, other various reptiles, coyotes, Kit Foxes, wild dogs (strays),jack rabbits, occasional squirrels, a few deer and other wildlife. Also check yourself for ticks (my friend found 2 on him on a warm weather day visit). Even if the weather is warm or seems nice statewide, be sure to bring cold weather clothing. Dress in layers so you can remove enough to stay warm without being overclothed and sweating. Remember, this lake is at almost 4,000 ft. elevation. The weather will have a dramatic effect on your ability to catch fish here. I have never observed a fishing report indicating that this lake is stocked by DFG. I do not think it is DFG stocked...if it is, would someone that knows officially about DFG plants please update a coment here. Please include the months of the year that it is stocked and the kind of fish added along with the trout. You cannot just go to this lake and fish it as you would a community park lake or a dammed lake resevoir below 2,000 ft. elevation. Winds blowing at 35 mph, with gusts up to 80 mph are not uncommon here. These type of winds occur about 275 days per year in this location.

Fished 3 hours and caught two 3 inch bass. Nice body of water and looked like there could be some big fish in there. Some guy in a chevy rolled up while I was there with two rods armed with striper lures. He thought he was Bill Dance. He didnt catch jack.

Big Catfish, Striped Bass, Perch, and Black Fish can all be found in this beautiful reservoir. Lot's of great fishing spots. Bring your bicycle to ride the perimeter road or your kayak to get good fishing spots away from other fishermen. Overnighting is not allowed, but you'll people fishing primarily at dawn and dusk. The only thing I didn't care for is the amount of trash people leave behind. Never have I seen such a trashy place! It's a shame the locals don't appreciate this pristine place. It has so much to offer and yet people tend to dump their trash and leave the place messy for others. There are porta potties, no water, no electric, no sewer hookups, dry camping only as this is a day use area. No motorized vehicles, boats, swimming or hunting allowed.
