A long time local fisherman, it seems Spaulding is difficult at best to get the fish to bite. Spring time is best. Many jumbo squaw fish on large flashy chrome or gold rapalas. When the lake is full in the spring, try pink or bright orange F-9 rapalas for the big rainbows. Fish the browns right in the rocks on the north and east shores. Dont be discouraged. There are plenty of days that the nickname"THE DEAD SEA"is fitting.

There are fish at the mouth of Fordyce creek, yuba river inlet, and at the main dam at the west side, but you need to go DEEP.
