I used to sneak in here in the 1960s to fish. I only caught small panfish and catfish but my brother once caught a 5 lb bass! The lake is now very silted in and shallow. I hope they remove the dam and restore steelhead spawning grounds upstream, but Stanford wants that water for its golf course irrigation.

I used to go to Searsville Lake as a kid in the 60's. Great spot for picnics, swimming. Thet had rafts in the middle of the lake you could swim out to and sunbathe on. Also a snack bar, picnic tables, row boat rentals. A very cool place. I took my fiancee there after a 15 year absence only to find that it had been closed to the public under the guise of protecting some plant species. That is when I decided to move out of California forever. The looney left had won.

I too spent the best summer days of my childhood swimming and picnicing at Searsville lake, back in the 60's. So sad that it is no longer open for public enjoyment. It was clean and pristine and imbued me with affection for and recognition of the magic of nature.

I grew up swimming at Searsville Lake...it was the highlight of my summer whenever we went there. Why is it closed?? I could never figure that one out.

I used to go to Searsville in the very early 1970's as an escape from the horrible Daly City summer fog. It was so pretty and fun and the swimming was great. A nice place to visit so close in the Bay Area. I was surprised to learn it had been closed.
