Lower Urad Reservoir Fishing in Clear Creek County, Colorado

Still 99 percent frozen over--- there was perhaps 10 feet of open water at the landing (occupied by a die hard couple that gave us the stink eye. they'd caught 3 small stockers). This lake is notorious for 3 things: 1) the Ho Chi Min trail-like drive up the dirt road--- do not try this in the rain in any vehicle [dry, it can be tackled by a 4x4 or high ground clearance car... or any rental car that can be trashed] 2) small fish! Urad is stocked and DOW must consciously stock with the smallest trout on hand--- I've fished this lake for 10 years and have never caught anything larger than 11 inches--- most are 8-9 inches and 3) awesome scenery, although Urad mine area does it's best to ugly up the drive up. Best tip: wait until last weekend in June and hike around to the NW end spill area. Fish on bottom (no bobbers) alternating rainbow Powerbait & nightcrawlers to see what's working that day. You'll catch browns and rainbows but they'll be small.

Not the easiest lake to get to. But Urad mine Reservoir, if you find this lake, Your in for a treat. It has the most spectacular panoramic view and the fishing is incredible. I had pulled from Rainbow Brown’s & Brook’s out of it. Best time I would recommend through experience would be late spring or early summer in the morning’s you just see them jumping for and with the view, it’s like a Fisherman’s Heaven.
