It took me 1 hour to walk up from the parking lot at the Air Force Academy. I do walk at a good pace.

I recently hiked up to Stanley Reservoir with my son, who is in the Air Force and has access to the trail at the Air Force Academy. I did not have any info on the fishing or what to expect, but on arriving, I noticed a large number of minnows and schools of fry around the edge of the lake. I tied on a streamer and proceeded to catch and release a number of nice cutthroat trout ranging from about 10 to 16 inches. It was a beautiful day and we had the lake to ourselves throughout the morning. As we started down, we came across a number of people coming up. Many who were hiking the trail for exercise or training.

Although I did not fish this lake hikers should beware. Climbing up from the Air Force academy side is not an easy hike. Most the way is straight up climbing over boulders and wet rocks. Inexperienced hikers should plan on a two hour hike. Don't know if there is fish there, but it looks nice.
