The Shenipsit Lake Association manages the lake. All boats must be registered and left on premise. Boat slips are available on a first come first serve basis. I lived in Vernon 2004 thru 2006 and frequented the lake. The fishing was amazing from boat but average from shore due to the limited areas to fish from. There is lake trout but its mostly a largemouth and smallmouth lake. Big depths in the 100ft range too which makes it ideal for smallmouth fishing. From what I remember that lake holds the record for the largest smallmouth caught in CT. I'd recommend the lake to anyone but go out of your way to align yourself with the association to find out when the date is to check in boats. My last year in Vernon all boat slips were accounted for by 7:30am the first day slips were available.

I fish here regularly. The Lake Association allows fishing along the shore for nearly half the lake. Plenty of good spots, especially along a small point that sticks out from the west side of the lake. I've had great luck fishing for largemouth here. In order to fish by boat, you need to register for a boat slip, and boats need to stay at the lake for two weeks before you can take them out on the water to avoid contamination from invasive species. Also, your boat needs to remain at the boat slip. If you take your boat away, chances are good that you will lose your slip. A big chunk of the lake is only accessible by boat, and with so few slips available, this area doesn't get fished that much.
