We made the trip up to Hump Lake & found that the local resident had the lake entrance gated off with no trespassing signs & stating fined if entered. Would like to find out how they can do this. Will be contacting the Forest Service too.

I thought the State of Idaho owed all water rights. so how can this person shut down Hump Lake..and the fact that it is only 1 of 2 lakes that handicap and senior's can get to

The lake is on private property which means the land owner has all right to close the lake off to the public. I work for the land owner and to this day still pick up trash left behind by you people so consider it your fault the lakes closed

I'm sure some people do leave trash, however should we close down crooked river, the southfork, the Salmon, and Snake rivers as well because some people litter. After all, the state of Idaho ownes all of these bodies of water and are probably getting tired of picking up trash. I will always fiish in Hump Lake when I go up there. I have never left trash, and have went there for 40 years. I feel I have a right to fish there the once or twice a year when I go up there, and it is wrong of the land owners to keep people out. They are land owners, not water owners!

I have done some research on the situation at hump lake regarding access. The land owner does have the right to keep people off his land however,The state of Idaho retains ownership of the water from the bottom of the lake to the high water mark. Most of the land surrounding the lake is private land which was patented in the early 1900's.There is a small piece of forest service land that touches the lake, but it appears to be land-locked by private land.If you check your forest service map private land shows up on the map in white, there may be access but it would require hiking in. Iam a land owner myself and will not trespass on anyones land.Honestly it is no differant than any other lake,If you owned a house on lake would you expect someone to walk through your yard and fish off your dock or launch a boat? I hate to see places like this change, but that is the reality.
