I was down by the quarry walking with my girlfriend today when I caught sight of what I thought was a large rock just beyond the side of the quarry. Imagine my surprise when the "rock" shifted out of the murky water and revealed itself to be a whopper fish of maybe some 3 feet in length. I would wager a guess it was a carp, but I couldn't tell as it slowly turned at the sight of us and swam into the dark depths of the quarry. Now I've lived here all my life and that's the biggest fish I've seen in those waters. Don't plan on dangling my feet any time soon.

I have to tell this story...last summer I decided to try my luck here with some fly fishing. It was in July at about 7:30 PM. A family just finished catching some small bluegill with pcs of hotdog. I went onto the platform where they were and caught a couple of small bluegills right away. What happened next is the real story. I heard some russeling behind me back on shore, I turned around and saw 6 raccoon walking around looking food. One of them walked across the walkway and onto the platform that I was fishing on. I watch him but kept on fishing. I caught another small bluegill but this time instead of releasing it back into the water, I tossed it over to the raccoon. He seemed delighted as he scrambled til he caught it and then turned and ate it. I continued fishing and a few minutes later felt something cold and wet touch my leg. I looked down and saw the raccoon who had just touched my leg with his nose. He then stood up on his hind leg as if to beg for more. I made another cast and luckily caught another fish which I offered to my little friend. He scrambled to catch it and again went off again. This time he must have had his fill because I didn't see him again. By the way, I have seen some nice size bass in this lake but have never hooked one. I have caught a few nice bass in the West Branch of the DuPage River which runs right next to Quarry Lake.

My grandma lives less than a mile from that lake so when i go to visit i always take time off to fish it. it is obviously an extremely deep lake several hundred feet deep i guess. I,ve fished it probably 20 times and i've never caught anything except small sunfish (green sunfish, pumpkinseed, and a few small crappie but mostly bluegil) and a few small brown bullhead (biggest was less than a foot) there are thousands of little bluegil and they'll eat anything (i've caught them on rocks or gum) it looks like an amazing lake and i've used everything from worms to hotdogs to rapalas and spinners but i've only seen tiny fish (ok once i saw an almost 2 foot something swim off i bearly saw it but i'd say it was a carp or maybe a bass but i dunno) i'm going there tonight and i'd really love to know if theres any other bigger species of fish there but i guess i'll have to find out on my own.
