If you're new to the area you can get ahead of the game on this lake by checking out an old guys fishing logs which are housed at the Pittsburg,KS Library. It looks like this old boy fished the lake quite a bit. I was just lucky to see a by line in the local newspaper about this guy. Seems he gave all the logs to the library when he left Kansas. Take a look if you're in the area. I didn't realize that the fishing was this good in Kansas but his logs showed me the way and saved a lot of gas and time. Anyway I've fished Big Hill and found it to be a tough but rewarding lake at times. Best bets are winter time crappie fishing in the main lake and largemouth in the later part of the year. It does get hit hard by tournaments so weekdays are the best.
