Dr. Clyde Nichols, who had his medical practice in Clarkson, Ky for many years built this lake (actually 2 lakes separated by a dam) in the early 50s. As a Sophmore and Junior at Clarkson High School in 1955, 1956 and 1957, I along with other basketball team members planted the pine trees on the west side of the lake as a school project. A few years later in 1964 and 1965 my sister, Marietta and I use to go fishing there. Can't remember much about our success but I recall it was fun. Dr. Nichols was kinda the unofficial team physican, treating many people free of charge and as a return favor to Dr. Nichols, the school allowed us to work, planting trees at the lake for a couple days each spring. Now, over 50 years later, I have great memories of Nichols Lake.
