Definately need a boat. I caught a few smallmouths, but there are so many large pickerel there that your lure doesn't have chance to sink to the bottom before one of these aggressive pickerels hit it. Caaught a fish at least every other cast. Been Fishing for 40 years on that trip and never had such great action. I actually had my pole form a blister on my finger from fighting these fish all afternoon. Never got that before in my life. Would have liked to catch more bass, but catching these fighting pickerels, 14" to 18" was so much fun, and never saw one commercial jet in the sky the whole 8 days I was there. Saw Loons, Bald Eagles, and Moose tracks at water's edge. Beautiful, and I was the Only person on the lake.
