I've lived on Silver Lake for several years and fish it quite regularly. A genuine, natural lake, created during the retreat of the Laurentide Ice Sheet more than ten-thousand years ago, it is primarily spring and stream fed. There are only about a dozen dwellings - a mix of year round and seasonal - all located on the lake's north east shore. Most of them were built more than forty years ago and the land surrounding the dwellings maintains a wooded, park-like appearance. The vast majority of the shoreline, however, remains in a heavily-wooded, natural state. The fishing is excellent and includes most of what one would expect to find in a small lake in the region: pickerel, bass, black crappie, bluegill, crappie, etc. In the past the lake was stocked with other fish such as trout but apparently they were unable to thrive and have since all but disappeared. Boating on the lake is limited to non-powered and electric powered vessels. To the best of my knowledge, Silver Lake is under the auspices of the State of New Jersey, however I believe all of the land surrounding the lake is private property making the question of how or where the public can access the lake in order to fish something of which I am not aware. I could be wrong but it seems unlikely that there would be no way for the public to be able to access and fish in a state-owned lake.
