I grew up just miles from this lake. Best fishing is for bass and pan fish near indian river inlet (to left of DEC launch), Walleye near cliffs across lake and to the right. Lots of Northern Pike too. The DEC launch sucks.

Hi, my name is Dale and I have been coming to Red Lake all my life as our family owns a camp there. Also it is the original farmstead of my family, going back to the 1700's. I love this lake and have spent many hours fishing, hiking and just sitting. I have caught everything thing from 32inch muskies to 1 inch sunfish! I do miss the bullheads tho, haven't caught them in long time. Wonder where they went? If I could live here year round I would. I love to inroduce new people to this area and all I ever ask is that they respect the land, water and people who come here. If you're in the area, I am at the "red" camp on the point to the right of the boat launch(facing the lake). Be well and enjoy!

Comment #2 from me...I was to meet my brother and other family members at Red Lake, for my 1st trip there. I had never been to the Lake. I unloaded my boat and started fishing because I did not know where the camp was located. The water was high, altought I did not know it. The area I started fishing was not even close to where the lake bed is. I casted and casted without getting a hit. I was resting in the boat when I heard what I thought was a lion roaring as clear as could be. It was scarey! Then, the party I was to meet came around the point, spotted me and began to laugh. They yelled that I was fishing on shore. We all went over to the camp. During the 1st meal I mentioned hearing what I thought was the roar of a lion. Everyone began to laugh. Old times can tell you a story about a woman walking her pet lion near the boat launch area.

I fished Red Lake 2000-2002 and caught more than my share of large and small mouth bass. Some were of very large size. All fish were catch and released. I did catch one large walleye and it fed four people a delicious supper. The lake is small. One tip: when dark clouds are above one has about 3 minutes to get off the water! It gets rough out there. I hope to return to Red Lake in '09. I found the best bait there to be white grubs.
