I fished Lake Lacoma 50 years ago as a kid. The fishing was excellent. I caught lots of good sized bluegills and a couple 3 lb. or so bass. Since it is now built up with urban sprawl around the lake I have no idea how to the lake or even if a person is allowed to fish there anymore. It is one of the areas best kept secrets!

Recent studies done by SUNY Geneseo of Lake Lacoma have shown most of the deep water in the lake is deoxygenated. The study revealed Lake Lacoma to be a cold spring fed lake and consequently it remains almost permanently stratified. According to residents, the lake only mixes once every ten years. Since the lake is nutrient rich, all of the organic material falling from the productive surface fuels bacterial metabolism on the bottom and leads to oxygen loss. The upper 3-4 meters are habitable to large fish but this becomes a potential problem when the lake freezes over and fish go deep. Stocking by residents has been tried on several occasions only to result in mass die-offs. There is no public access to this lake.
