Burden Lakes are private lakes and are not open to the public. There are no public beaches or boat launches and the residents actively discourage fishing from the roads surrounding the lakes.

Jeez. You guys are childish. I lived in between the 2nd and 3rd lakes for 23 years. No, there is no boat launch, but you can fish from the dyke. As long as you have a fishing license, you are fine. Suprisingly, Burden Lake (2) is the best in my opinion. If you can get a row boat on there, or know someonw with a camp, you can launch.....the 2nd lake produces alot of bass, I fish the docks with top water lures and kill it. I dont blame the for not allowing public access, the lakes are not that big, and with #3 being the biggest, you already have a bunch of clowns with speed boats already terroizing the lake as it is, a boat launch would just casue havoc....still the BLA needs to find some new hobbies.

For everyone's information, the Burden Lakes have not been stocked by NYS for over 20 years. There are three separate organizations involved with these lakes, one of these organizations owns the land which comprises the bed and banks of all three lakes. There is NO public fishing, beaches or boat launches, as stated before, the residents actively discourage fishing from the roads surrounding the lakes. Please clean up your language and get your facts straight BEFORE you post here. None of YOUR taxpayer dollars are paying for anything in OUR lakes, including the thousands of dollars the members of our associations pay every year to keep the waters weed and algae free. Thank you.

I fished her and caught some nice fish. Some weeds, but with a john boat you can find a nice spot. I didnt have any problems with anyone and wouldnt expect to as I am a responsible outdoorsman and respect it. I will continue to fish there and enjoy the freedoms I have fought for. If you see me out there with my little girl in my john boat, please approach me respectfully if you have any problems with me fishing OUR lake.thank you.

I found the locals rude and they do try to control the lake. The water quality though not poluted is poor. Oil slicks could been seen in random areas. I do believe that the lake has not been stocked for twenty years because only thing I caught there was couple of sunfish that felt oily to the touch. I know NYS said the fishing was great but I do not believe it. No salamders or minnows were seen around the shore line. You would think the people who live around the lake and the Burden Lake Associations who try to control the lake would spend more than couple thousand a year and take better care of this lake. Plenty of weeds algae and milfoil was seen on this trip. This lake is a public lake and to say it isn't is ridiculous.

Fishing is open to the public but we would prefer to have it to ourselves so we will continue to hassle anglers in the future. If you don't want to deal with us please stay away.

the people around burden lake feel as though they have the right to control the lake. Little may they realize it is stocked by the STATE which means that it is NOT a PRIVATE LAKE. I fish there regularly. Anyone over there has a problem with it you can kiss my ass

I lived on Burden Lake 3 for 10 yrs. 97-06 caught plenty of BIG bass 3-6lbs. on a daily basis. Plastic worm in natural or green works well. Texas rigged or just worm on a tru-turn. Also walleye are caught in 5-15 lb. range, Have also caught some huge Northern Pike over 3 ft. long. Plenty of places to get on the lake so don't worry about the so called locals that think they own the water cause they don't.

In the latest issue of NYS fishing regulations, there is a picture of a guy with a huge walleye. If this is PRIVATE lake, why would that be in a official NYS publication? These are just pretentious claims from greedy people. FISH AWAY!

Taken from burdenlake.org (BLA website) "Register your boat! The law requires any boat that is powered by a motor and operated on public waterways in New York to be registered. Registration is required even if the motor is not the primary means of propulsion. Forms and information are available at the NYS DMV web site." PUBLIC waterways. Hmmm. Shame on you

the 2008-2009 NY Fishing Regulations Guide lists Burden lake as #9 hot spots: "#9 Burden Lake & Tomhannock Reservoir Species: Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, White Perch The 2007 surveys of 365-acre Burden Lake and 1,700-acre Tomhannock Reservoir, both in Rens- selaer County, show abundant populations of 11- to 13-inch white perch. A survey on the Tomhannock found an abundant population of smallmouth bass in the 12-18 inch size range and a good population of walleye. A fishing permit from the city of Troy is required for the Tomhannock Reservoir, and boat- ing is prohibited." HOW COULD IT BE PRIVATE?!?
