It is a LOOOOONG hike up to this lake and for almost nothing. I tried spinners, fly with bobber, worms, and even salmon eggs. The only success I had was with my spinner (red rooster tail) at south side of the lake. I caught a smallish brookie. That was all I was able to catch in a 4 hour period. I think fly fishermen may have a much easier time of it as I witnessed many fish feeding on the bugs. The tributaries of this lake are a much different story though, I was catching Goldens and Golden mixes all day long. They were small (as Goldens tend to be) but probably the nicest looking trout I have ever caught. The only reason I even went to Wood lake was for the rumored Goldens and I am glad I went.
