From about 1955, for several years, my brother & I drove mud roads up to park near the dam on Meadow Lake. The gentlemen who had built a lodge on the lake & stocked it with German Brown & Rainbow trout, in addition to native Cutthroat, had also hired loggers to fell trees all around the shore of the lake, to deter non-members from fishing. It was our belief that the body of water wasn't legally owned by anybody. We found a log, & sticks for paddles, & went out on the lake to catch great stringers of beautiful big trout. I wonder if those trout succeeded in the "transplant" to the Nestucca drainage after the dam washed out in 1964.
