Springton is amazing. I've been going there for 10 years, even after Aqua bought it and closed it to fishing. The McMansions, that are built too close to the water by the way, are probably the main reason it is closed. Too many complaints from rich assholes and stupid kids drowning in it. Idk how if its posted no swimming that people can sue for their kids disregard. I haven't been there in years. I used to go every single day during that drought of like '02 '03. The water was dry well down past Bishop Hollow Road and all the fish were concentrated. The best fishing I've ever done was during this time. I was only around 13 at the time and I'd catch 4-5 lb largemouth all day long. I've see monster carp in this place and heard lots of stories of tiger muskies. It is purely a disgrace that it is closed now, there is no good fishing for miles from this place and this lake is purely amazing with the size of the fish in it. I've been there the past 4 days and have been catching beautiful fighting large and smallmouth bass. Today I caught a 4lb smallmouth that was beautiful. I'll never stop fishing there, all they do is tell you to leave if you get caught. If this place was open to electric motors you wouldn't want to leave. Since the water level is high now, grab your waders and go deep, you'll catch em. If you see the white truck, hide.

I fish this reservoir every spiring since I was a little boy.A few years a go they closed access to this watershed due to liability and security issues.Which basically meant they were getting tired of local kids falling in and drowning and mommy and daddy sue because there kid was stupid. Also 911 had an effect on the closure, since it is a drinking water source for a majority of the county. But in regards to the fishing,it has always been unbelievable and has only gotten better since they closed it to the public.I sneak in in full camo gear now,but I wont let some local politicians take away my childhood fishing hole just because of money and semantics. But the largemouth bass fishing is sensational,i have caught bass close to 7 lbs,and have seen even larger. The crappies are giant and will bite for you all night.Another great feature of this reservoir is the massive channel catfish. Now I dont see many catfish at all in this watershed, but when you do see one(and usually at night under the lights)they have been 3 to 4 feet long. There is also a massive population of white perch that someone dumped in a few years back and are starting to take over. And there is also a problem of overabundance of ornamental koi carp as well as european imported carp, definitely way too many.In some ways closing off this reservoir has helped improve fishing, but at the same time I feel certain species are becoming massively overpopulated and affecting overall watershed health, not to mention the native trout population on crum creek which feeds the reservoir. Also have a chance at the few remaining tiger musky which still prowl at night feeding on the crappies sitting under the bridge lights. All in all a great spot to fish, just dont get caught.I see the fishwarden down there all the time patrolling,i just let him walk on by.hope this helps someone

Was a great fishing resource. I caught a legal size tiger musky at Springton, four days after returning from a year tour of duty on Okinawa. That was Labor Day, 1983. I was actually fishing for crappie with ultralight gear and a small white mister twister as my lure! That is a day that I will never forget! Very sad when it was closed to the public. That has been for quite a few years now.

closed. people suing for deaths of their un educated children. signs say NO Swimming. but they did anyway and some died. how can you sue if posted. million dollar houses put up around lake. I think this is the reason for no fishing. the lake is fenced in. it is a disgrace. fished it for over 40 years since a 5 year old. no good fishing within 20 miles without this lake .
