There have never been fish in this highly alkali lake...I think Ross may have tried to gnaw on a decomposed squirrel that drowned in the muck...

I holed-up in a cabin on Soap lake for an entire year when I went into post-divorce isolation and did nothing but kick around and get to know the area...like the back of my hand. I can't tell you how many times I saw tourists pulled over and sometimes spending hours fishing. The locals get a kick out of seeing this and tend never clue them in. Let me put it like this, you will never ever see a local fishing in a lake with no fish. What more can I say. Wanna be a fool, laughted at, and go fishing only for the fishing and not fish? Then this is the place. Now, just down the road is another story.

This may come as a shock to eveyone but there are fish in Soap lake, they just dont live long. The alkali in soap lake isnt as high as it used to be so the lake can support fish. Spinny ray eggs get attatched to the feet of seaguls, ducks, and geese and fall off when they land in the lake. A few of these eggs do manage to hatch, but birds like the maganzer gobble up most of these stragles. Call me crazy if you like but i have seen small schools of perch in the shallows.
