Ross Lake Fishing in Whatcom County, Washington

I trailered my 13 foot Boston Whaler up to Hope, BC, and drove the 55 kilometers over the dirt road to the north end of the lake. The road was in pretty good shape. The lake has some nice rainbows, most of which seemed to be in the 15 inch range. The key was to troll with downriggers and put a small spoon behind a small flasher at 30 to 50' depth. Got plenty of nice fish.

I used to fish this lake every summer, late June from 1977-1981 with my dad. We would drive up to Hope BC then take the forty mile gravel road down to the campground, boat launch. We would mainly fish around Cat Island and Lighting Creek area. We trolled the top 25 ft. of water with the tried and true pop gear and night crawler. But a f-5 frog flatfish or a dardevel midget also in the frog patern would also put a lot of fish in the boat. I believe it is a artificial only lake now. Fish would range from 14"-18" and were great fighting and better eating trout. I would like to go back sometime and try Ross Lake again, many great memories there.
